AIDS Included In Primary and Secondary School Syllabuses

From the academic year 2007/2008, the primary and secondary school syllabuses and the teacher training colleges will integrate modules on AIDS materials. The document introducing the teaching and training on family life education, population education material and HIV/AIDs school programmes was jointly signed last January 18 by Mrs. Raman Adama and Louis Bapès Bapès, respectively ministers of basic education and secondary education.

We take this opportunity to remind all of you about the forthcoming Regional Meeting which we are very excited about.
The theme of this meeting isBFHI Community Support. We intend to hold it in July of 2007, so please diarise these dates as optimum attendance would enable us to plan and coordinate our IBFAN activities most effectively.

Seven local NGO including; AMODEFA (Family Mozambican Association); ANEMO (National Association of the Mozambican Nurses); ANSA (Food Security and Nutrition Association); COMUTRA (Committee of Working Women); HOCOSIDA (Man against AIDS); MULEIDE (Women, Law and Development) and REENCONTRO (Care of orphans and children under unfavourable conditions, as well as youth), gathered on 6th and 7th of December, to discuss their needs and ways to increase the visibility of IBFAN in the country.

It is alsoTHUMBS UP for Zambia capacity project, in the very able hands of Jane Chitanda and Freddie Mubanga and their team from the NFNC. As we praise the Gambia for enacting its national law on the Code we also congratulate Zambia for also coming up with a National Law. Not as strong as the Gambia but achieving a fairly high level on the ICDC scale (Level 2 meaning many provisions of The Code as law).

The Regional Coordinator and Administrator went on a Mission to The Gambia during the last week of September running into October, 2006. This was part of the Capacity Building Project being implemented in Mozambique, the Gambia, Zambia, Tanzania and Uganda. The National Nutrition Agency (NaNA), hosted the RO staff and the activities that took place. This was a very successful mission and well organized by NaNA, under the very able leadership of Sir Phall and his team Fofana, Amat and others.

The Regional Office in collaboration with its Dutch-based development partner, ICCO, have embarked on a Capacity Building Programme. This is part of our ongoing efforts to empower members, and better position them for new challenges and developments. By doing so we improve the sustainability of our network.
